In my early consultancy days, playing Buzzword Bingo was a frequent pastime in lengthy meetings. Back then, despite some colleagues' love for buzzwords, it was rare for someone to win a game in one go. But today, statements like "The accelerating rate of change in the new normal is forcing a pivot to the metaverse" or "The unprecedented rate of change is driving digital transformation" might yield an instant BINGO! 

The problem with overused phrases is that their original meanings often become diluted to obscurity. Take 'artificial intelligence'—a term now so overused it might refer to anything with analytics, even if those analytics rely on manual processes. 

Similarly, 'transformation' has suffered the same fate. Once denoting significant change, it's now used for any change, large or small. My former colleagues at Accenture, a current Cognician client, likely understand 'transformation' better than most, describing it as driving fundamental change for efficiency, agility, and new value for all stakeholders. Yet, how many LinkedIn connections claiming organizational transformation truly meet these criteria? 

A recurring theme in transformation narratives is the need for a new mindset; a cultural shift that challenges the status quo, favors experimentation, and embraces failure. Reimagining operations and activating teams to think and act differently is where the process becomes truly intriguing.
