How a Power Utility Activated Adoption of a Continuous Improvement Platform

A Nordic power utility was struggling to get its people to log their ideas for improvements in their new cloud-based continuous improvement system.

Among those targeted for activation there was plenty of support for the new system. Everyone agreed it was the right approach to nurture innovation. But there was a gap between intention and action. Employees simply weren’t logging in and using the system. .

The solution was to build and deploy a Cognician 10-day challenge to activate adoption of the platform. Over a ten day period participants were directed to use the continuous improvement platform to log improvement ideas whenever they came up. And to capture older ideas, which should have been logged before. The daily challenges removed the gap between intentions and actions, and employees started using the system regularly.

To make these actions more durable and give them a chance of turning into habits, employees reflected on their experience after each challenge. This continuous cycle of action and reflection made an immediate shift in the adoption of the platform, and laid the foundation for longer-term continual usage.

Successful activation was measured in the number of logged improvements.
