No two teams are alike, but our Microsoft 365 Copilot adoption programs reveal clear patterns. What are the shared and unexpected experiences people encounter? Discover four key highlights from our Copilot adoption rollouts.
Every audience is different – from their experience level to their function. However, there are patterns in what we have observed from multiple Copilot adoption programs.
1. People help each other.
We see an unusually high number of insights shared by participants offering suggestions to their colleagues on how to get the best out of Copilot functions and prompts. This tells us that people are energized by their experience and motivated to share it with others.
2. Engagement increases over time.
In many activation programs, around the halfway mark, we often see a drop-off in engagement. Copilot programs are different. The engagement curve goes up week by week. This is probably because the cumulative benefits of working with Copilot create a state we often strive for: participants feel like they are putting in a little and getting out a lot.
3. Everyone needs more help with advanced prompting.
Even though our programs enable users to try out valuable prompts in different areas of Copilot, many program sponsors still ask the same question at the end of their rollout: "What more do you have on prompting?" This is likely because great prompts have a structure that gives them useful properties. Without well-structured prompts, you can receive dull results. It seems that many program participants struggle to generalize what they know about prompting from merely copying and pasting canned prompts. This is why prompt libraries have limited value. To develop skill in prompting, you need effortful practice in creating great prompts. Thankfully, we have a solution for that.
4. Time is saved, sure. But even better, money is saved by reducing outsourcing costs.
Many of our clients have said they're not completely sold on the benefit of time saved through Copilot. While this is debatable, it's a common position. But what we have started seeing is a value that no leader would argue with. Clients report that functions are saving money by reducing their need to outsource their excess work. Greater productivity means less is spent on outsourcing.
